Overview
The way that we display numbers should be dependent on what the customer is trying to accomplish within the page and what the purpose of the page is.
When to use full v. truncated numbers
Use full numbers in areas where the main job to be done for customers is seeing numbers / metrics / analytics and also in places where customers need to copy and paste full numbers. Full number appropriate areas include:
- Campaign Analytics
- Messaging Insights
Use truncated numbers in areas where seeing numbers / metrics / analytics is not the main job and primarily used as supplementary information. Areas where truncation could be appropriate include:
- User count in Workflow nodes
Truncation rules
We will start truncating numbers at 1,000 and above and to the first decimal. This is when things start getting hard to read, when space becomes more of a concern, and when differences between the full number and truncated number become pretty minor. Some examples include:
- 1,239 will become 1.2k
- 12,391 will become 12.4k
- 12,899 will become 13k (since the rounded decimal is a 0, we will just drop it from the truncated number)
- 122,239 will become 122.2k
- 1,223,291 will become 1.2m
